Annual Oomycete Molecular Genetics Meeting

Each year, the network will support a 2-3 day Oomycete Molecular Genetics Meeting (OMG Meeting). Usually, the meeting is organized in conjunction with the Asilomar Fungal Genetics Conference or, in alternate years, at a location outside the U.S. Upcoming meetings are listed below. They will take place in the spring or summer, and the specific dates and the locations will be announced when available.


The 2014 OMG meeting will be held at the Norwich City Football Ground, in Norwich, UK on July 2-4, 2014.

The Organizing committee is Mark Banfield (John Innes Centre, Norwich, UK), and Sophien Kamoun (The Sainsbury Laboratory, Norwich, UK). To apply for a travel award (deadline February 28, 2014).

TRAVEL AWARDS - Applications due February 28, 2014.

Through funding from the US Department of Agriculture, 12 travel awards are available for attendees employed in the United States. These awards will provide up to $US 1600 to assist with the costs of travel, food, accommodation and registration for the meeting. Dependent on additional sponsorship, a very limited number of travel awards ($1600 each) may be available for attendees from countries without established research funding infrastructures.

The travel awards are intended to facilitate the attendance of individuals who will especially benefit from attendance, and who may ordinarily not be able to attend. Thus, strong encouragement is given to:


A very limited number of travel fellowships may also be available for researchers from countries that lack an established research funding infrastructure, which are defined as ALL non-US countries OTHER THAN: all countries of Western Europe, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, India, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, and Taiwan.

Send your one page CV and a one-page justification for how the fellowship will benefit your research to Joel Shuman ( by February 28, 2014. If you plan to submit an abstract for a poster or talk, please send a copy with your application. We will let you know if your application has been successful no later than March 15, 2014. Applications received after the deadline will be considered only if there are funds remaining.
